This week marks the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Olympics and thought to reflect on that with a post recollecting the past. The 1964 Olympics held in Tokyo was the first Olympic event held in Asia. Japan had won the bid to host it in 1940 itself, but the World War II played spoil sport at that point in time.

An interesting video from British Pathé which shows Tokyo preparing for the event after the spectacular progress made by the nation in the post war scenario, in less than 20 years!

The video also shows a significant greener Tokyo towards the end which is in contrast of the concrete city we have presently.
